Sketchbook Cultural Heritage Studies @ Tunisia

These sketches were done during my Cultural and Heritage Studies in Tunisia, 3rd Year Landscape Architecture class of 2021
"JUXTAPOSITION" - We can see the direct relationship between the two categories; the pathway and the traditional shop entrance. On one side, the path is decorated with calmness and relaxation, while on the other side, it depicts colorful chaos with collections of traditional Tunisian carpets and rugs :)!
"NOSTALGIA" -  Like in the ancient times, where people usually wear Safsari in their daily lives :) !
"TRADITIONAL CUISINE" - Tunisia’s famous dish such as Couscous, Salad Mechouia, and Tunisian Brik :) !
"CONTINUITY" - a Tunisian man spinning wool on the wheel. The sight is unique for both of them because it cannot be found in Malaysia.

The beginning of the Souq el Cald road shows how walkable paths were directly linked together along the winding alleys surrounded by buildings.

Along the paths, there are a lot of shops selling ceramics, carpets, and many more traditional arts and crafts :) !
"SCREENED VISTA" - The vista, Ribat screened by the trees increases the sense of Hereness and dramatic effect as it withholds the view until one travels past the tree to see the wall :)!
"SCALE" -  The Ribat architecture design scale is intensified by being seen together with the tourists due to their main function as a military fortification (bigger than common buildings)

Fun fact: Ribat is one of the best preserved heritage in Tunisia!
"SEEING IN DETAILS" - The intricacy of the ZAOUIA ZAKKAK design invite the eyes to see in detail the wall extracting itself as a form of art influenced by the Andalusian era.

Some fun facts, the building is regarded as the city's finest surviving example of Ottoman era architecture :) !
"OMNIPRESENT" - The shapes and patterns formed that we saw on the doors using metal studs made the designs last for a long time :) !
"NEARBY BOU FTATA MOSQUE" - Going through this winding street while accompanied by Bou Ftata Mosque :) !
"Focal Point" - Coupled with enclosure (the residential and commercial buildings) along the winding alley, the Bou Ftata Mosque act as a focal point, the vertical symbol of heritage in Medina of Sousse :)!
"CHANGE OF LEVEL" - The ascending stairs produce a sense of mystery and going into the unknown.

Fun fact: It does not have a minaret like the usual Mosque.
